it just called to me….

Happy Friday!  Boy…it isn’t very often a week crawls along at a snails pace for me.  They are usually over before I am ready to relinquish my grip.   I blame the week prior for teasing me with it’s brief appearance, and for the weather finally easing up into loveliness.  It made it hard for me to be my nerdy-self in my windowless lab.  Well, it is over and we get to enjoy a fab weekend of kids soccer, football parties, and a girl-scout meeting.  I am so looking forward to it.

In my last post, you may recall that I found something that “called to my heart”.  This piece of history was so aesthetically pleasing that I just had to have it.  The spool and bobbins themselves made me ooooooo and ahhhhhh, but look at the delicious colors of the thread.  Cotton and wool thread with beautiful hues and textures.  Not only will I be able to enjoy the glory of it sitting in my craft space, I can snatch little pieces here and there for my projects.  Can you feel my gittyness? 🙂

It even smells good and old.  My heart skipeth a beat!

If you need a little perspective, this thing is like 12 inches tall.

Ok, so now that you have had a chance to ogle a bit, do you see that lovely teal-green color?  I had a perfect place for that in one of my layouts.  The button just needed a little something.

Repurposed Photo Storage

Happy Monday Glitter fans.

My my my, it is going to be a hot one this week.  Looking like the humid-hundreds for a while here in central Iowa.  I feel very sorry for the college students that are back, as it seems like yesterday that it was me crawling to class in the heat.  It wasn’t yesterday though…sigh…and they look sooooooooooo young to me.  Did I look like that once?  I can’t remember.  See, my memory is already going.

Speaking of memories, about a week ago, I finally got the opportunity to  stop into Sheldahl Crossing.   The owners of Sheldahl Crossing are descendents of the original founders of our central Iowa community, and they specialize in antiques & collectibles.  I was on the hunt for a container to store my printed pictures.  I found what I needed and another lovely item that called to my heart , but that is a blog for another day.

Mini file box…perfect.

Time to give this piece some personality.

How fitting….

Trim paper to size and Ink up the edges. Maybe even get a little carried away and do the whole thing.

Tim Holtz has these lovely little Word Bands.  I wanted mine to stand out  so I painted some white acrylic over the top and wiped away the excess.  The paint settles into the words and makes them stand out a bit.  Later I ended up going over this with the same Peeled Paint (green) distress ink I used on the paper.

I picked this paper to coordinate, and inked it up as well.

After adhering the papers, I added a few embellishments, such as the corners and the label holder.
I used my old typewriter to add the word “Photos” to the label….actually I have to give my six year old credit for that.  She is currently obsessed with the typewriter and came running after I typed  “P”.

Ribbon was attached to the sentiment before I put it on the box.

I am so happy to have a nice little home for my printed pictures.  Yay.

How Berry Sweet

My colleague and friend, Jean, so graciously gave me these yesterday! mmmmm

Aren’t they cute?

I couldn’t eat this one though…  for obvious reasons.

How can the ‘fruits’ of Jean’s labor go without thanks?  well, they just can’t.

Luckily I have the perfect stamp set from Lawn Fawn.

Summertime Charm was a perfect choice.

I started by stamping with Archival Ink and chose my favorite water soluble crayons.

Fussy cut your pieces.  I like to cut the lid out and add it because the jar looks open to me otherwise… just an ‘ism of mine.

More stamping and assembly of your card or tag.

Finished.

So Bright…

I’d like to kick off my blog with one of my favorite layouts.  The look on her face is of a confident toddler (scary thought…i know).   I just love how this one came together.

I can always turn to the American Girl Paper Posies when I am too lazy to turn on the Cricut.  You can usually find them at Micheal’s (use your coupons).  It is a versatile product and I’ve even painted and/or glittered the flowers to get the look I need.
